Central High School’s Chorus Teacher Receives a Grant

Central High School chorus teacher, Ms. Sydney Sewell, was awarded an $800 grant to attend Harmony University in Nashville, Tennessee this summer. Ms. Sewell will attend a week­long training for choral music educators who are specifically trying to recruit and grow a men’s presence in their choral ensembles. Harmony University, home to the Barbershop Harmony Society, opened in the early 1970s. For over 40 years Harmony University has continued to grow and expand as a premier educational choral school. Ms. Sydney Sewell is in her first year as Central High School’s chorus teacher. Ms. Sewell has emphasized the importance of Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) competitions and events. Ms. Sewell’s hard work paid off when the Central High School quartet of Elijah Green, Will Godbee, Caleb Williams, and Joshawa Arnell took first place in region literary competition.
