Seven Carroll County High School Students Win 2016 High School Creative Writing Contest

The Cultural Arts Division of the Carrollton Parks and Recreation held the 2016 High School Creative Writing Competition Award Ceremony on March 10, 2016. The contest is an opportunity for students to share their literary talents and be awarded for their efforts. Seven Carroll County students were awarded certificates and cash prizes for their entries. Overall, eight students won awards. This year the program was cosponsored by The Fulford Family Foundation, Jill Adams State Farm, and the Carrollton Creative Writers Club. Racquel Thomas, a junior at Mt. Zion High School, was chosen as the first place winner ($300) in the poetry category for her entry entitled “The Mind of the Neanderthal” & “But Now, I am a Woman”.

Haley Thompson, a freshman at Central High School, was the first place winner ($300) in the short story category for her entry entitled, “They Think I’m the Monster.”

Diondra Franklin, a junior from Bowdon High School, was chosen as the second place winner ($200) in the poetry category for her entry entitled, “To Being Me!.”

Destiny Ware, a junior from Mt. Zion High School, was chosen as the second place winner ($200) in the short story category for her entry entitled, “Recognitions of the Knight”.

Marlo Eidson, a sophomore from Bowdon High School, was chosen as the third place winner ($100) in the poetry category for her entry entitled, “Where I’m From”.

Naomi Peeples, a sophomore from Temple High School, was chosen as the third place winner ($100) in the short story category for her entry entitled, “The Foe of the Forsaken”.

Kerrie Harrison, a sophomore from Bowdon High School, received the CCWC Choice Award ($150) for her short story entry entitled, “Miracles”.

Dr. Eleanor Hoomes was the 2016 Creative Writing Guest Author. Following the award ceremony the winning recipients participated in a workshop conducted by Dr. Hoomes.

The 2016 Creative Writing Competition was sponsored by the Carrollton Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.
