Central Middle School Honors Program Visits Tybee Island

Students in the Honors program at Central Middle School traveled south to learn Life Science in a hands on experience through the 4 H Educational Camp on Tybee Island. The Burton Camp on Tybee welcomed 68 students and 30 parents from February 1719. Students participated in classes studying Astronomy, Critters and Crabs, Marsh and Beach Ecology, and Shark Dissection. Students completed assignments for each class that they attended. Students were also introduced to some Georgia History by visiting Fort Pulaski on their final day. Caroline Crow, the seventh grade Gifted Facilitator for Central Middle School, organized the trip. Susan Caffrey, who originated this alternative learning experience 17 years ago, still attends and teaches a class to the Central Middle School's gifted students.
