Villa Rica Academic Decathlon Team Wins 3rd in State

Villa Rica High School Academic Decathlon team represented Villa Rica High School and Carroll County at the Academic Decathlon State Competition on February 26 & 27. Villa Rica High School won third place out of the top 24 teams in the state.

Individual Medals were awarded to the following students: David Brooks: Silver in Science and Math and a gold medal in speech­ David placed in the top ten in every subject area in the state. Katie Moss: Silver in Essay­Katie finished in the top ten in science, art and essay. Dahlia Del Angel: Gold in Literature and a silver in interview. Dahlia finished in the top five in literature, music, science, art and interview. Brendan Porter: Silver in science and a gold in literature. Brendan finished in the top five in literature, science, art, and economics. Ansley Couch: Bronze in literature and a gold in science. Ansley finished in the top five in literature, science, art and economics. and in the top ten in music, mathematics and interview. Emma Sumner earned a bronze in essay. Emma also finished in the top five in literature and essay and in the top ten in science and mathematics. Jacob Hall finished in the top five in literature, science and art. He finished in the top ten in mathematics, economics and essay. Kaitlyn Jones finished in the top ten in art Vanessa Bagwell finished in the top ten in literature.

The team is coached by Cynthia Cox, Sarah Triplett and Russell Bennett.
