Central High School art students took top honors last Saturday in the Atlantic Institutes Art & Essay contest. The competition boasted over 600 visual art entries from the state of Georgia. Ashley Henderson earned 6th place for her work titled, “The Passage”. The work was an interpretation depression and eventual passage out of a depressed state. Ashley received a certificate, trophy, and $25 award.
Becca Quinn Dawson earned a 1st place award for her visual art work titled, “Heartbeat”. Becca’s work was an interpretation of the coexistence of all religions in the world. Each religion is shown in the shape of an actual heart and was developed by her idea of all hearts and all beliefs coexisting in all people. As a 1st place award recipient, Becca received a certificate, trophy, $200 award, and a $3,500 trip to Turkey. In addition, her artwork will be used in future promotions and advertisements for the Atlanta Institute. An interview with Becca will be posted to the Georgia Public Broadcasting Service (GPBS) educational blog.
“The Central High family is extremely proud of these two students. Their success continues the tradition of fine arts excellence at Central High School. We strive to provide opportunities for students to excel in the arts, academics, and athletics. These two ladies seized their opportunity and have represented our school well,” stated Central High Principal Jared Griffis.
Ashley and Becca are both students of Central High School art teacher, Mrs. Cynthia Landon.
