Central High School Names New Head Football Coach

The Carroll County Board of Education has approved Larry Kesler as the new head football coach at Central High School. Coach Kesler comes to Central from Elbert County High School where he served as the offensive coordinator for the last three years. In fifteen years of work with high school programs, Coach Kesler has served as both an offensive and defensive assistant in addition to serving as an offensive coordinator at three different schools.

Coach Kesler began his coaching career at Elbert County where he was a star high school quarterback. In 2002, Kesler joined the coaching staff under his former high school coach, Mike Falleur, at Northwest Whitfield. He started out as a wide receivers and quarterbacks coach and eventually became the passing game coordinator. In 2011, he moved to Villa Rica High School with Coach Falleur as the program’s quarterback coach and offensive coordinator. In 2013, Coach Kesler returned to Elbert County High School to serve as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Coach Sid Fritts. The 2015 Elbert County team reached the state quarterfinals against Calhoun High School. During his tenure at Elbert County, Coach Kesler has been responsible for the development of quarterback Mecole Hardman, the number one rated athlete in the 2016 football recruiting class.

Coach Kesler stated, “I am so excited to join the Central community and become a part of the Lion family. Central football has a tradition of success. Coach Zackery and his staff did a great job over the last three years and it is an honor to have this opportunity to continue to move the program forward. I have been very impressed with Mr. Cowart’s and Mr. Griffis’ vision for Central High School and the school system. There is a true commitment to help our student athletes succeed on and off the field. Carroll County is a great place to live and work and we are looking forward to many exciting Friday nights in Lion Valley.”

Coach Kesler is a graduate of Covenant College and holds a Masters degree from Grand Canyon University. Coach Kesler is married to Charmin Kesler and has one daughter, McKenzi (1).
