Carroll County Schools Superintendent Mr. Scott Cowart named Georgia Superintendent of the Year

Mr. Scott Cowart, Superintendent for Carroll County Schools, received the honor of being named Georgia Superintendent of the Year by the Georgia School Boards Association and Georgia School Superintendents Association during the organizations’ annual conference Friday, December 4, 2015, in Atlanta.

About 20 superintendents from across the state were initially nominated for the award. In September, Cowart learned he was one of four finalists.

Under Cowart’s leadership, the Carroll County School District has implemented Bring Your Own Technology initiatives, decreased the achievement gap, increased the graduation rate, and has been instrumental in developing strategic partnerships with local business and organizations and with nationally recognized organizations.

Upon receiving the award Mr. Cowart stated that this award was a team award made possible by the collaborative work of premier teachers and premier leaders. He thanked the members of the board of education, superintendents around the state, and his home community of Carroll County.

Earlier this year, Cowart was also the recipient of the prestigious Bill Barr Leadership Award, which is given by The Georgia School Superintendents Association for a superintendent who has demonstrated exceptional skills in mentoring colleagues and fellow leaders.

Cowart will now represent Georgia in the national superintendent’s competition sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators.
