Central High School nominated students in the areas of Communicative Arts, Spanish, Agriculture Science, Mathematics, Music, Visual Arts, Science, and Social Studies to the Governor’s Honors Program. Students participate in both school and county level interviews in order to have the opportunity to advance to state level competition. Carroll County Schools is awarded 25 slots to the Governor’s Honors Program state level, and of those 25 slots, Central High School students filled 13 positions.

“To send 13 students to state level interviews in Governor’s Honors is unprecedented,” said Central High School Principal Mr. Jared Griffis. “We are extremely proud of all our students, but we are particularly proud of this group for stepping up and for making it to the next level. Last year, Central High School had nine (9) students qualify for state level interviews, a first for our school. Sending 13 as part of the county’s 25 gives you an idea of the type students Central High School is preparing for the community and workforce each day.” The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors or seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. GHP is held mid-summer on a college or university campus. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and they participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening. Meals and rooms are provided by the program.
