Central High School Honors Hall of Fame Inductees

Central High School inducted four (4) new members to the Hall of Fame. Inductees were introduced and honored at the football game on Friday, November 6. The new inductees are Mr. Paul Weathington, Mr. Sylvester Parks, Mr. Tim Holt, and Mrs. Shirley Bickford.

The first inductee was Mrs. Shirley Bickford, who taught English as well as other subjects at Central High School for 20 years. Mrs. Bickford is credited with introducing Advanced Placement classes to Carroll County Schools and taught the very first class in 1985. She also chaired the English Department from 1989-1995 and served as the Senior Class sponsor for several years. Mrs. Bickford was honored to be named Star Teacher five (5) times as well as Central High School Teacher of the Year. Many of her grandchildren have attended Central High School.

The second inductee was Mr. Tim Holt, who graduated from Central High School in 1985. He played football, basketball and ran track while in school. Mr. Holt was a member of the 1985 State Championship Basketball Team and a member of the first undefeated regular season Central Lions football team in 1984. Mr. Holt named to the Carroll County All-Area Team in three (3) different sports. Tim Holt was nicknamed “Truck” because he ran over folks. He was a true competitor and a leader on and off the field. Mr. Holt passed away on August 28, 2015, at the age of 48 after a long battle with Huntington Disease. His wife, Barbara Holt, and his children were on hand to accept his induction into the Hall of Fame.

The third inductee was Mr. Sylvester Parks, a 1978 graduate of Central High School. Mr. Parks played football, basketball, and ran track. As a track athlete, he was Region Champion in the 100 yard dash and qualified for the state track meet where he finished 4th behind legends Larry Kinnebrew and Herschel Walker. As impressive as his track career was, Sylvester is best remembered for his football career. As a star running back, Mr. Parks gained 219 yards against the Carrollton Trojans to lead the Lions to their first victory over the Trojans

The final inductee of the evening was Mr. Paul Weathington, a 1977 graduate of Central High School. Mr. Weathington put Central High School on the map with his debate skills, winning both region and state championships. He received numerous college offers but chose to stay close to home and attend the University of West Georgia. At the University of West Georgia Paul won a debate National Championship. Mr. Weathington graduated from the University of Georgia, College of Law in 1984 and is now a successful attorney in Atlanta.
