Central High School Earns Region Runner-up at Literary Competition

Central High School students participated in the AAA region Literary Competition, bringing home top honors in both individual and group events. Students earning first place ribbons will move to state level competition on Saturday, March 14. Central High School literary competitors are coached and coordinated by Mrs. Jennifer Green and Mr. Jamie Biddle.

In the choral events, Dayton Peek and Britney Harris competed in the solo category. Dayton earned first place and is eligible to compete on the state level. The female trio of Lenora Booker, Addie Battles and Britney Harris earned first place. Dayton Peek, Joshawa Arnell, Elijah Green and Caleb Williams formed the boys quartet and placed second.

In the area of dramatic interpretation both Daniel Moye and Maya Babbs earned second place. Natalie Bowen was alternate for Maya and Will Henderson was alternate for Daniel Moye. In boys essay Scott Anderson took home second place and his alternate was Jacob Barnes. The girls essay competitor was Nicole Poncela and she placed third. Nicole’s alternate was Sydney Stone. In the area of extemporaneous speaking, Caroline Conerly placed fourth and her alternate was Kimberly Johnson. Freshman Andrew Stewart was the alternate for boys extemporaneous speaking and did supurb coming in second place.

Central High School’s overall points tied them for the region title. Following examination of the tie-breaking rules, the Central High School Literary Team named Region Runner-up.
