Bay Springs Middle School Earns 3rd Place at the West Georgia Chapter of Georgia Society of Professional Engineers

Friday, February 25th , Bay Springs Middle School students Sarah Kay, Logan Haynes, Caleb Galate, Jarod Moss, Rondell Laronde, Kaulin Brinson, Ashley Wright, Kelsey Jenik, Jashi Davis, and Brandon Beckford attended the annual Chapter Math Counts Competition. The participating schools in the West GA Chapter of Georgia Society of Professional Engineers included Bay Springs Middle, Bowdon Middle, Bremen Middle, Carrollton Junior High, Central Middle, Madras Middle, The Heritage School, Lee Middle, Haralson County Middle, Temple Middle, and Villa Rica Middle. Over 90 students from the region competed in this competition. The students completed two individual tests, and then a four person team from each school competed in the team round. The individual scores were used to determine the students that will represent the district at State Competition.

Out of the twelve competing schools, Lee Middle School placed 1st, Madras Middle School placed 2nd. Bay Springs Middle placed 3rd, and Central Middle School placed 4th. All four schools received a trophy and individual medals. Ashley Wright, 7th grader, and Sarah Kay, 8th grader, placed high enough to be invited to compete at the State level. They will attend State Competition Monday, March 23rd at Georgia Tech. Math Coach, Tina Parker, says that all the members have worked extremely hard and that she is so proud of all of them.
