Carroll County Schools Nutrition Services Take First Place in Sixth District Culinary Competition

February 6, 2015) Carroll County School Nutrition is proud to announce Nurdan Basat, School Nutrition assistant at Central Middle School, won first place for her Low Sodium Entree, first place for her WG Cinnamon Roll and first place for her Breakfast Fruit Cup. Mrs. Basat was the first place winner of all three categories in both the local Carroll County School Nutrition Association Culinary Arts competition and the Sixth District Culinary Arts competition. Mrs. Basat will now move on to the state competition.

For the state competition this spring, Mrs. Basat will travel to the Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Atlanta where she will compete against winners from the other nine school districts in the state. Each will prepare their winning dishes under the watchful eyes of the chefs at the institute and will be judged accordingly.

Each of the 18 counties in the Sixth District are encouraged to hold a local competition among employees each year. The Carroll County local competition produced several great entries. Judges for the Carroll County School Nutrition Culinary competition consisted of Supervising Lead Manager Marian Freeman, Administrative Assistant for Student Support Services Lee Ann Roach, and School Nutrition Director Bridgett Cross.

We are very proud of Mrs. Basat for her dedication to the school nutrition program. Good luck to our culinary competitor as she moves on to the next stage in the competition.
