Mt. Zion High School has been selected to participate in the Georgia Apply to College program, an annual event sponsored by Communities in Schools, the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Technical College System of Georgia, and the University System of Georgia. GAcollege411 is Georgia’s online resource providing lots of information for students as they plan, apply and pay for college. The site serves as a valuable resource for application and financial aid information for the public and private colleges or universities in Georgia. In addition, it provides a number of tools that students can utilize to do things such as track their progress through high school, take online test preparation courses, research high-demand careers, and develop an online portfolio and resume.
On Wednesday, November 19, 2014, Mt. Zion High School’s seniors received hands-on assistance applying to college from volunteers and school staff. Several volunteers were from local colleges, universities and technical schools. They also received assistance from a representative of the Georgia Apply to College Committee. The goal of the event was for each student to successfully complete at least one college admission application using the GAcollege411.org website. Mt. Zion High School had over 40 seniors apply and complete an application to college.
