Ava Sewell Hall Dedication Ceremony

On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, the Bowdon community celebrated the renovations to Ava Sewell Hall with a dedication ceremony. Renovations to the facility began late in 2013 and concluded in September 2014. The project was funded through SPLOST funds and a donation from the Sewell Foundation.

Speakers during the ceremony included BHS Principal Travis Thomas, Carroll County Schools Superintendent Scott Cowart, Bowdon Historical Society representative Judy Rowell, and Dick Plunkett, grandson of Ava Sewell as well as member of the Sewell Foundation.

Ava Sewell Hall was initially constructed in 1955 after a fire had burned the previous gymnasium on the Bowdon High School campus in the fall of 1954. This facility was arguably the last true totally community-subsidized education project within Carroll County, as the building was financed solely through contributions from the local citizenry.

Ava Sewell Hall has proudly served the community of Bowdon since 1955. With its recent renovations, Ava Sewell Hall will continue to serve the people of Bowdon for many years to come.
