U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education Visits Carroll College and Career Academy

Carroll County Schools was one of two stops in Georgia Monday, September 8, 2014, for the the U.S. DOE Back to School Bus Tour. U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education Dr. Johan Uvin and other national and state education leaders toured the College and Career Academy.

During the visit to the Carroll County College and Career Academy, Dr. Uvin and the other educational leaders visited classrooms and spent time with students and teachers. Dr. Uvin was excited about the rigor he witnessed during the classroom visits. During a panel discussion with teachers and local leaders Dr. Uvin sought explanation for the success of the College and Career Academy. Carroll County Chamber CEO Daniel Jackson pointed to the local community commitment to improving graduation rates and increasing the number of students equipped to enter the workforce with high employability skills. School Superintendent Scott Cowart and new WGTC president Steve Daniels, shared how they are working in partnership to create more opportunities for students seeking dual enrollment opportunities through the College and Career Academy.
