Sand Hill Elementary Teacher Wins the Governor's Office of Student Achievement's Innovation in Teaching Competition

The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement selected Sand Hill Elementary teacher, Ms. Rikki Chandler, as one of the winning teachers for Round 4 of the Innovation in Teaching Competition. As a winner of this competition Ms. Chandler will receive $2,000 stipend, Sand Hill Elementary will receive a $5,000 grant for CCGPS implementation, and Georgia Public Broadcasting will film Ms. Chandler in her classroom sometime this fall. Ms. Chandler’s unit plan will be made available to other teachers on GeorgiaStandards.org and iTunes U.

“Mrs. Chandler's room is a place where students do not realize they are being held to a high expectation,” said Mrs. Carla Meigs. “She teaches in a way where her students do not want to miss because every day is a new adventure. She is able to reach each student and push them to achieve. She has never asked me in nine years how many of her students have passed state testing. She has always asked how many exceeded. I think I enjoy being in her room as much as our students do. She is a true asset to the profession of teaching!”
