Mr. John Howle, the Curriculum Design Specialist at 12 for Life, was selected for a fellowship through Georgia Institute of Technology's Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing. The GIFT (Georgia Intern Fellowships for Teachers) program provides paid summer STEM internships in industry workplaces and university laboratories for middle and high school teachers. Teachers experience first hand how industrial scientists and researchers approach problems, design experiments, interpret data, communicate findings, and develop and implement workplace solutions.
Through the program, Mr. Howle will be working to finalize the 12 for Life Replication Manual, a student-produced project that began as part of the Carroll County School System's Race to the Top $1 Million Innovation Fund Grant awarded to 12 for Life. Dr. Douglas Wright, 12 for Life Coordinator, said "Mr. Howle has a track record of success with students, and is deserving of this opportunity. It is also a privilege to partner with Georgia Tech on this project." Mr. Howle has 21 years of experience in education, and was an English teacher at Crossroads and Bowdon High School before joining 12 for Life.
