Whitesburg Elementary School Hosts CSI Science Camp

Twenty-five upcoming 3rd-5th graders attended CSI: Cool Science Investigations Camp at Whitesburg Elementary on Friday, May 30th. Students began their day learning about engineering and the design process. Camp leaders Beth Childers and Beverly Dillard presented the campers with several design challenges that required the students to put what they had learned about engineering to use. The students spent the day working cooperatively and individually to plan and construct several designs to meet these exciting challenges. Challenges included designing mini-hovercrafts that would travel the farthest, marshmallow shooters that would provide the strongest force and straw boats that would hold the most weight. At the end of the day, students left with a portfolio full of their designs and a new understanding of the engineering process.
