On Wednesday, April 23 the Georgia Department of Education announced that Sam Jenkins, a senior at Bowdon High School, has met all criteria for the 2014 Georgia Scholar Program. There are eight
different components that a senior must meet to be recognized as Georgia Scholar and Sam rated high on each.

Sam has a combined SAT score of 1370 and a GPA 4.0 (non-weighted). He is a member of the cross country and track teams and received the Captain Award this year. He participated in the West Georgia Regional Technology Fair where he placed 1st place all four years and qualified for the
Georgia State Educational Technology Fair. He is a member of the Concert Band and also participated in the Georgia Tech and University of West Georgia High School Math Competitions.

Sam was the HOBI delegate his sophomore year and he teaches Spanish at Bowdon Elementary to third grade gifted students. Additionally, Sam teaches robotics to third grade students and advanced robotics to third through fifth grade students in the after school program at Bowdon Elementary and in summer camps.

Sam is dual enrolled at the University of West Georgia and is a member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. Sam was also a 2012 Governors Honors State Interviewee for mathematics his sophomore year. As a junior, Sam attended the Governor's Honors Program for mathematics. Sam also received AP Scholar distinction this year. Sam plans to attend Georgia Tech in the fall to study engineering.
