Marissa Ogando Named Principal of Whitesburg Elementary School

Dr. Marissa Ogando was named the new Principal of Whitesburg Elementary School at the May 1, 2014, Carroll County Board of Education called board meeting. Dr. Ogando will be replacing Mr. Jared Griffis who will be the new Principal of Central High School.

Dr. Ogando began her career in education as a language arts and social studies teacher at Yeager Middle School in Douglasville, Ga. In 2006, Dr. Ogando moved to Bill Arp Elementary School in Douglasville, GA as a 5th grade teacher. She then joined Carroll County Schools in 2007 as an assistant principal of Roopville Elementary School and in 2010 moved to Villa Rica Elementary School as assistant principal. In 2011 Dr. Ogando was named Principal of Roopville Elementary School. In 2012 Roopville Elementary received the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement Platinum Award for Greatest Gains. In 2012, Dr. Ogando moved to Burnett Elementary School in Douglasville, GA as Principal.

Dr. Ogando’s educational credentials include her Bachelors of Science in Middle Grades from the University of West Georgia, Masters Degree of Education Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University, Specialist in Educational Leadership from Argosy University, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.

Whitesburg Elementary has a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is a direct result of the partnership between the school, parents, and community."

Superintendent Scott Cowart shared that Dr. Ogando’s proven experience of leading successful schools made Dr. Ogando an obvious choice for the principalship at Whitesburg. “Dr. Ogando knows how to help a school improve and is tireless in her efforts to make sure every student is learning to their fullest potential. Additionally, Dr. Ogando knows how to work in a community based school environment by working with the teachers, staff and community to move a school forward. She will be an asset for Whitesburg Elementary and the entire school district.”

Dr. Ogando and her husband, Jonfry, have three children, Briana (13), Ariel (8), and Madelyn (4).
