Four Carroll County School Students Receive NAACP Scholarship

On Sunday, April 13, 2014 the NAACP of Carroll County conducted their Inaugural Annual Scholarship Luncheon giving away three thousand dollars to area high school students. Four Carroll County high school seniors were awarded scholarships worth five hundred dollars toward their college education. “This event at the University of West Georgia was so well received by the community that plans will soon be underway to make next year’s event more rewarding than this year”, said James Stocks, President of NAACP.

This Inaugural NAACP event saw scholarships go to the following Carroll County students: Brandon Mann from Bowdon High School; Josiah Dunson from Central High School; Katria Powell-Wilson from Temple High School and Larry Drew Mitchell from Villa Rica High School. Mr. Stocks said the NAACP scholarship committee awarded these scholarships based upon the student’s financial need, evidence of leadership abilities, readiness to do college work and the recommendation of the school guidance counselor.
