Carroll County Schools approved Dr. Dana Harman as the new Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning at a called board meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.  Dr. Harman, a former teacher, assistant principal and principal for Carroll County will be taking over the leadership of Teaching and Learning for the district as Stan Davis transitions to his new position as superintendent of Banks County Schools.

Dr.  Harman earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, her Masters and Specialist from the University of West Georgia and her Doctorate from the University of Alabama. Dr. Harman started her education career as a teacher at Carrollton Junior High School. In 1997, she moved to Central High School as an English teacher and department chair before moving to Bowdon High School as Assistant Principal in 2001.  In 2004, she was named principal of Sand Hill Elementary School.  Dr. Harman was appointed as the principal of Bowdon Middle School in 2007 before accepting her current position as Principal at Central High School 2011.

During her three year tenure as the Principal of Central High School Dr. Harman has overseen a resurgence of the school's academic, fine arts and athletic programs.  Dr. Harman and her staff expect success while focusing on the needs of all students.  Through a commitment to excellence and focus on quality the school works to ensure every student is college or career ready when they graduate.

Carroll County Superintendent, Scott Cowart, said that Dr. Harman's passion of Teaching and Learning as well as her experience as an elementary, middle and high school principal will be valuable to the district.  Additionally, Mr. Cowart pointed to Dr. Harman's hands-on experience in the district through serving schools in the Bowdon, Central and Villa Rica Clusters as an asset for the district.  "Dr. Harman is from Carroll County, knows Carroll County and, more importantly, understands what it will take to continue the work of moving our district forward.”

“I am honored that Mr. Cowart and the Board have confidence in my ability to be a part of the efforts to make Carroll County a premier school system,” said Dr. Harman.  “Carroll County is a special place and I am excited to be part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the school system is meeting the needs of all of our students.  By working together and focusing on using the talents of our teachers we can make sure all of our students are prepared for the challenging world into which they will graduate."

Dr. Harman and her husband Chuck have two children, John (20) and Mattox Harman (16).
