Villa Rica High School Hosts "Lime Out" Event Fundraiser

On the evening of January 14, 2014, all five Carroll County high school wrestling teams came together at Villa Rica High School for the Carroll County Duals. This, however, was no ordinary wrestling meet as everyone came together to not only witness some great mat action, but to also support Araceli Hurley, who is the mother of one of the wrestlers from VRHS and who is currently fighting Lymphoma.

Lime green t-shirts, which were sold as a fundraiser to signify the “Lime Out” event, were seen throughout the gym, including on the wrestlers as they warmed up and even the referees as they called the matches. Several local companies, led by A1 Logistics, made lump sum donations while others, like Don Rich Ford, J Collins Funeral Home, Apex Chemicals and Fitzpatrick Insurance, committed to participate in a Takedown Challenge where they donated between 25 and 50 cents per takedown throughout the duals. The Takedown Challenge was not confined to VRHS as a wrestling coach for the Department of Defense in Ramstein, Germany, hosted a wrestling tournament this past weekend where they held a Takedown Challenge as well to take donations for Mrs. Hurley. In addition to t-shirt sales, concession sales, ticket sales, lump sum donations, the Takedown Challenges and a generous donation from the Ribbon Foundation from Mount Zion, there was also a raffle for a very nice seven-night stay in a Global Homes Resort which came with a free hot-air balloon ride and airboat ride. FOX 5 News covered this event and aired a report on their nightly news show.
