Carroll County School Nutrition Is Awarded 2013 Georgia Best Practice Award

Carroll County School Nutrition is proud to announce that the district has been awarded a "2013 Georgia Best Practice Award" from Georgia Department of Education in Leadership, Development, and Program Management. Bridgett Cross, SN Director for Carroll County, submitted an application identifying the substitute workshop held quarterly and it's benefits to the program.

The Carroll County School Nutrition Program requires all potential employees to attend the workshop
and also to be a substitute before being considered for employment. The workshop is designed to
present important information to substitutes before working in a school kitchen. Knowing just a little bit of information the school nutrition program in advance helps to ensure food safety practices are
followed, substitutes know proper lifting techniques to protect themselves from injuries, and prepares
them for the physical and mental aspects of the job.

The workshop has cut down on several hours of time the central office spent weekly having to handle applicants on an individual basis. In the past, the School Nutrition Director met with each applicant and performed an interview before placing the person on the substitute list. This is not necessary now thanks to meeting everyone at the workshop and going over the School Nutrition Program's expectations for employees. While attending the substitute workshop, the applicants are able to complete all necessary paperwork and schedule fingerprinting and background check appointments.
